Guideline for 2012 Summer Chinese Course
1. Application period: Mar. 1st to May 31st, 2012 (8:00-11:00, 13:30-17:00 M-F) 

2. Application Documents:
    (1) Application form for Summer Chinese Course 2012;
    (2) A photocopy of Passport; 
    (3) Application fee.

3. Study period:
 Phase I:   Four weeks: Jun.25 to Jul.20 (Monday to Friday)
                Six Weeks: Jun.25 to Aug.03 (Monday to Friday)
                Eight Weeks: Jun.25 to Aug.17 (Monday to Friday)
 Phase II:  Four weeks: Jul.23 to Aug.17 (Monday to Friday)

4. Application fee: RMB¥450 (Approx. US $ 80)

5. Tuition fee: 
             
RMB¥3850 (Approx. US $ 610) for four weeks (Jun.25 to Jul.20 & Jul.23 to Aug.17)
              RMB¥5550 (Approx. US $ 880) for six weeks (Jun.25 to Aug.03)
              RMB¥7250 (Approx. US $ 1150) for eight weeks (Jun.25 to Aug.17)

6. Course
    (1) Main courses: (designed for average 20 students in a class) (we will do the placement test on the registration day)
         Intensive Chinese (it is divided into six levels: A to F) → Appendix(2) , (one level for four weeks)
         Business Chinese (it is divided into two levels: intermediate, advanced) → Appendix (3); Appendix (4)
         Intermediate Business Chinese class is for students with basic speaking, listening, reading and writing abilities, and the ability to use Chinese in everyday life
         Advanced Business Chinese class is for students with intermediate speaking, listening, reading and writing abilities, and the ability to use more advanced Chinese in everyday life

    (2) Elective courses:
         Chinese Calligraphy  (four weeks)
         Chinese Painting   (four weeks)

7. Procedures and Notes for Application
    (1)The application can be completed online or an application form can be downloaded from our web-site at: www.sie.sjtu.edu.cn. Fill out all the required information. Handwritten applications are not acceptable.
    (2)Application documents can be submit through the web-site, email, post or by hand to the office before the deadline.
    (3)The application fee should be paid when you submit the application form. It can be transfer to our account or paid in cash, credit/banking card in our office. Please provide a copy of the bank transfer invoice as soon as you transfer the fee.
    (4)Account information:    
Please transfer the application fee to the following account number, and mention the applicant’s name and ‘summer course’ on the Remittance Note.

    (5)An Admission Notice and visa application form (JW202 form) will be issued after approval of the application. The applicant can bring these documents as well as the valid passport to the Chinese embassy or consulate to apply for the student visa (usually the visa type is ‘F’). The JW202 form is not needed for all applicants. Those who are already in China, please submit a copy of your visa page together with the other application documents.
    (6)The applicant should register at the university according the date on the admission notice (Jun.24, 2012 & Jul.22, 2012). If you are not present the day of registration (excluding with the permission of the university) , you will be regarded as abandoning the admission. 
    (7)The application documents will not be returned and the application fee is nonrefundable. The tuition fee should be paid before or on registration day (Jun.24, 2012 & Jul.22, 2012) and will be nonrefundable after the registration day. 
    (8)If the summer Chinese course and the fall-term Chinese course are both applied at same time, there is only one application form (application form for the Long-term Chinese Course, sending to iso@sjtu.edu.cn) and one application fee required. If the two courses are applied separately (i.e., at different times), two application forms and application fees will be requested.

8. Textbook and Elective course
  (1) Textbook:Approx. RMB¥100 (Approx. US $ 16) per person  
  (2) Elective course:RMB¥250 (Approx. US $ 40) per person per course  (four weeks)

9. Extracurricular activities (The fee may be changed depending on the current market situation)
  Students can apply freely and we will start with a minimum of 10 students.
  (1) Two-days trip to Hangzhou & Wuzhen (Jun 30 to Jul.1) , RMB¥750 (Approx. US $ 120) per person;
  (2) One-day trip to Suzhou (Jul.14), RMB¥350 (Approx. US $ 56) per person;
  (3) Two-days trip to Yangzhou & Zhenjiang (Jul.28 to Jul.29) , RMB¥700 (Approx. US $ 115) per person;
  (4) One-day trip to Zhouzhuang (Aug.11), RMB¥250 (Approx. US $ 40) per person;
  (5) Visiting Shanghai Museum (Jul.11 afternoon), application fee RMB¥20 (Approx. US $ 3.5) per person
  (6) Visiting Tian Zi Fang (Aug.8 afternoon), application fee RMB¥20 (Approx. US $ 3.5) per person
  (7) Acrobatics Show (Jul 04 or Jul 25, RMB¥180 (Approx. US $ 30) per person per time)

10. Accommodation:
    Lian Xing Building and No.9 Dormitory Building
    Lian Xing Building (Single Room): RMB¥120(Approx. US$19)/day (Private bathroom, air-conditioner, TV, Telephone, Internet access)
    No.9 Dormitory Building (Single Room): RMB¥130(Approx. US$21)/day (Public bathroom, air-conditioner, TV, Telephone,microwave oven, refrigerator, Internet access )
※※ Room reservation should be made when application. If dormitories are full, we do not accept any room reservation. The accommodation fees should be paid on the registration day (Jun.24, 2012 & Jul.22, 2012) and it is nonrefundable. The above fees exclude the bill Utilities.
