Qualifications of Applicants
Above the age of 18, healthy, non-Chinese citizen, foreign visa holders with senior high school diploma (or above); those under the age of 18 should submit Guardian's Guarantee Statement (download online);
Those overseas applicants who were nationals of the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan must have held the valid foreign passport or certificate of nationality for at least four years, and over two years (nine-month actual residence in foreign countries within one year can be calculated as one year, subject to the entry and exit date) of the actual abroad residence record within the last four years (as of May 30, 2014).
Those who were originally Chinese citizens should submit naturalization certification and proof of cancellation of original Chinese household registration.
Application Materials
1. Senior high school diploma (Graduating students should provide an official proof of graduation for the time being. Once admitted, students must submit the graduation certification and the copy when they enter the university. Otherwise, it will result in cancellation of admission);
2. Official transcripts of your academic achievement during the senior high school study, including courses taken;
3. One photocopy of your passport and two passport size photos;
4. Valid certificate of HSK (Level 4) above 180 or transcript downloaded from the official website;
5. Enrollment fee RMB 800 (approx. US$135).
Notes:
Materials in Articles 1 and 2 should be original documents or notarized copies, in English or other foreign languages. The Chinese version issued by notarized or certified units should be included.
The applicants should personally submit or entrust others to submit the application documents directly to any of the application locations. You may also apply through the mail. But the application documents must be sent before the deadline, otherwise the application shall be deemed to be invalid.
Regardless of the admission result, the application documents will not be returned.
Application Method
Applicants shall only apply online and meanwhile upload the scanned copies of the materials listed above. You shall post or directly submit required materials to Room 105 (Admission office, School of International Education) before the test date. Those who fail to submit all the materials as required before May 31 shall not be admitted.
Specialties
Chinese Language and Culture
The specialty focuses on Chinese language theories, skills and knowledge on Chinese culture and history, etc. and enables students to proficiently conduct spoken and written communication in modern Chinese, to understand the history and current status of Chinese society, politics, economics and culture, etc. which makes the student a real messenger for Sino-foreign cultural exchanges and cooperation.
Business Chinese
The specialty is based on Chinese language theories and skills teaching, and focuses on the application of Chinese in international trade, international business and economic trades, and other professional courses. By enhancing skills training, it can meet the demand for business Chinese professionals in the context of economic globalization.
Financial Chinese
Based on Chinese language theories and skills teaching, the specialty gives priority to courses concerned with practical application in financial sector and modern finance. It aims to cultivate professionals who can proficiently use Chinese to be engaged in international finance, insurance, securities and other financial services.
International Bilingual in both English and Chinese
The specialty is a joint program co-devised and implemented by Shanghai Jiao Tong University and La Trobe University of Australia. It adopts "3+1" teaching mode: freshman study at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, sophomore courses in Australia as required, junior and senior studies back at SJTU until the completion of the study. Set up to meet the demand of the global talent market, the specialty has a bright future.

Admission Method
1. Merit-based admission with reference to the high school transcript and Chinese performance.
2. A minimum requirement of HSK. The HSK certificate and score shall be submitted before May 31, 2013.
3. The Admission Letter is released in accordance with 4-year program length.
4. For the placement in sophomore, applicants shall refer to "Provisional Regulations on Chinese Language Undergraduate Placement of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of International Education".
5. For the credit recognition of the placement, please refer to "Regulations on Exemption Course Exams for New Students Applying for Chinese Language Undergraduate Placement of School of International Education (2012)".
Scholarship
Top 5 liberal arts students out of the test are eligible for "Shanghai Government Foreign Student Scholarship (Class B)".
Application Result and Admission Letter
The Admission Letter of successful applicants will be sent out from June 5 to 15, 2013. Please confirm your mailing address or receiving method when filling out the application form.
Note: Please bring the senior high school diploma and the copy with you on the registration day (as to other materials, please refer to the Admission Letter), otherwise you will be disqualified.
